The Beekeepers Quilt
4th Saturday of the month

10:30am - ???
FREE
This is a long term project but it makes the most beautiful quilt.  This quilt is made up of 100's of tiny honeycomb shaped pockets.  Easy to take along and fun to create different color puffs.  The puffs are knit using sock yarn.  One way to make this project a little more fun is a sock yarn swap.  We all have little leftovers from the socks we knit and we can't just throw it away.    Each puff takes approx 20-25 yds of sock yarn.  So gather up all your leftovers for a yarn swap.  Measure out 25 yds and make little baby hanks.

If you decide you would like to participate in creating your own Beekeepers Quilt.  You will need to purchase the pattern either here in my shop or online at Tiny Owl Knits.  The cost of the pattern is $5.50.

The 4th Saturday of each month we will have a get together to check out each others progress, to get some moral support and the most fun part, swapping yarn.

Also, for this project I will have a little basket of mini's.  Kind of like "take a penny/leave a penny"  If you can't make it to the monthly swaps and you need a different color for your Beekeepers Quilt come in and see what's in the basket.  If you take a mini, you must leave a mini.

Beginning 101 - Knitting (individual lessons)

$7.50/30 minute session with purchase of one pair of needles and one skein of cotton yarn.  If you already haveyour own yarn and needlesand would like to use them, the first 30 minute session will be at the rate of $15.00 and any additional time will be $7.50/30 minutes.

In the first lesson, you will be knitting a dishcloth.  I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but you will understand soon enough.  There are 3 steps to completing a project.  Step 1:  You will learn how to get the stitches on the needle.  This is called casting on stitches.  Step 2:  You will learn the knit stitch.  After you 30 minute session is over, you will go home and work on your homework.  If you have problems during the week with your "homework", bring it in and I will help you get straightened out, and show you what you did to cause the problem.  If this takes kess than 15 minutes there will be no charge.  Otherwise, you will be charged for an additional lesson.  When your dishcloth is the size you want it to be, usually square.  Come back in to Unwind.  Step 3:  You will learn to take the stitches off the needles, this is called Binding Off.  Your first project is complete.  Now it's time for you to decide if you enjoy knitting and want to continue.

This is the point we would start a second lesson and I will teach you how to purl.

Beginning 101 - Purling (individual lessons)

During your second lesson, we will continue to work with the dishclothe theme.  I know you are ready to jump head first into socks, or sweaters, or baby booties, but lets get the basics down first.

You will be working the same 3 steps from the previous lesson.  Step 1:  Casting On Stitches,  Step 2:  learning how to purl, Step 3 Binding off.  During Step 2, I like to introduce some different techniquies that can be accomplished using the knit and purl stitches.  Garter Stitch, Stockinette Stitch, Rib Stitch and Seed Stitch.
